LEARNING TRHOUGH PLAYING A GAME

Hello! Today I’m going to talk about a game that teachers can use in order to introduce the measurement topic in the classroom. This game consists of reading and listening to some definitions of measurement and at the end, young learners will have to do a brief quiz to check their knowledge and understanding about the topic.  I consider that this game is a good way of learning the different instruments of measuring people can use in their daily life as well as young learners will have the opportunity to develop their abilities in new technologies, thus, they will acquire more independent and autonomy about their own learning. Another positive fact to highlight is that young learners could practice the foreign language in which it will help them to acquire more vocabulary and will help them to develop writing and reading skills. Well, I’ll let you the web page, if you are interested in using in the mathematics lesson! (CLICK HERE TO START PLAY)

WHAT IS MEASUREMENT AND HOW DO YOUNG LEARNERS INTERPRETE IT?

In this first entry, I would like to focus on the definition of measurement and analyse how young learners can learn this concept effectively since many students do not usually understand this concept and have many complications when they have to calculate the measurement of something which is beyond their cognitive capacity. The concept of measurement could be defined as the result of measuring, so that, it is the act and effect of measuring. In other words, it is about comparing the quantity of magnitude that we want to measure with the unit of that magnitude. This result will be expressed by a number which will be followed by the corresponding unit, for example, if we want to measure our table and we are going to use the meter as a unit, the result could be 3 meters. Now, I would like to share with you some different activities that young learners can do in order to be aware of the importance of measuring in our social environment. For example, teachers can start with aski...

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Welcome! My name is Lucrecia Díaz and I am a student from the University of Málaga, specifically, I am studying a Primary Education degree which is my last year. My purpose of this blog is to share with all of you, different methods and didactic activities which could be interesting and useful to implement in a Primary Education classroom. For this reason, the different entries will be focused on how to teach measurement in an innovative and meaningful way. Moreover, I would like to make you aware of the importance of teaching measurement by giving learners the necessary opportunities to experiment and have curiosity by themselves. Therefore, throughout my entries, I will tend to write a lot of ideas and curiosities which teachers can use in the classroom making students be critical and reflective through learning how to measure using different methods and materials. I hope you learn a little more and my entries will be useful for you in order to implement these ideas ...
